Hipatia

Hipatia

La gran maestra de Alejandría

Hypatia of Alexandria was one of the first women philosophers and, nevertheless, history books have not been very good to her. A great Neoplatonic teacher, Hypatia excelled in the fields of Astronomy and Mathematics, although she is also remembered as a brilliant inventor: she improved the astrolabe –a very useful tool to navigate with reference to the position of the stars– and developed the first device used to measure the density of liquids. This book tells the story of how she managed to do so many brilliant things in a world dominated by men, and it sure is exciting.

The text and the images make sure to deal with pedagogical threads that traversethe characters’ scope of activity, especially those regarding respect for animal life and ecology, both for family readings at home and at school, supporting the educational program.
