Agustín de Betancourt, born in 1758 in Tenerife, was an engineer, military man, and a prominent professor of engineers and architects. Over the course of his  brilliant career, which saw him take part in the history of three different countries, he contributed to improve the lives of his fellow citizens with a countless number of technological innovations in public infrastructure. Even today, almost 300 years later, this universal figure from the Canaries is still remembered all over the world.
